Project's Summary

A unique challenge presented itself when tasked with designing a house on a lot with no slope, situated between two existing houses. The team at Villalba Palau Arquitectos architectural studio took on this project with the vision of creating an introverted house that seamlessly transitioned from the outside to the inside, while offering distinct living experiences and visual frames.

To bring this concept to life, the architects decided to divide the lot with a transversal cut, utilizing five concrete walls. These walls not only created individual spaces but also formed a longitudinal volume that traversed the house, housing the three bedrooms. Moving through the house, the main circulation path guides occupants through various areas enclosed within these concrete walls. Importantly, the volume does not extend to the adjoining lots, allowing for a garden on the left and an indoor patio on the right.

The materials palette chosen for this project consists of concrete, concrete blocks, steel, and glass. The architects aimed to create neutral spaces that are flooded with natural light. This combination of materials and design elements ensures a seamless integration of the house with its surroundings, while also providing a sense of openness and tranquility.

Throughout Casa PM, the architects have skillfully crafted a home that not only respects the existing context but also creates its own unique spaces and experiences. The use of concrete walls as both dividers and visual frames adds a sense of solidity and structure to the house. Meanwhile, the strategic placement of glass elements allows for an abundance of natural light, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.

In conclusion, the Casa PM project by Villalba Palau Arquitectos architectural studio showcases their ability to transform a challenging lot into a harmonious living space. By thoughtfully dividing the lot with concrete walls and incorporating materials such as glass and steel, the architects have achieved a design that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings. This introverted house provides its occupants with distinct living experiences, offering a tranquil oasis in the midst of a bustling neighborhood.
