The captivating Arches Pavilion, located in the technology hub of Milan, Italy, stands as a testament to the innovation and creativity of the WOOD-SKIN architectural studio. The pavilion's design and engineering were masterfully executed by INDEXLAB, showcasing their expertise in computational design and algorithmic modeling.

Comprising three vertical elements, the pavilion features curvilinear columns seamlessly merged together to form a single, visually stunning structure. What truly sets the Arches Pavilion apart is its ability to transform the perception of space as one navigates around it, inviting visitors to embark on a 360-degree exploration.

The challenge faced by the architects was to shape intricate geometries using a two-dimensional system, while ensuring ease of installation. This is where WOOD-SKIN proved to be an invaluable product, offering an innovative solution for complex architecture and surfaces. With its revolutionary technology, WOOD-SKIN enables the creation of complex, three-dimensional walls and suspended ceilings.

Thanks to INDEXLAB's expertise, new generative algorithms were developed to discretize and approximate curved surfaces into flat geometries. For the Arches Pavilion, the structure measures three meters in height with a footprint of approximately four meters. It consists of an incredible 202 two-dimensional elements of WOOD-SKIN, meticulously assembled on-site using hidden bolted connections.

Beyond its application in pavilions, WOOD-SKIN also offers versatility in architectural design. It can be used as a free-form casserole, providing the perfect framework for casting reinforced concrete in the construction of structural elevation elements within buildings. This innovative solution opens up a world of possibilities for architects and designers, giving them the freedom to create unique and captivating structures.
