Project's Summary

Introducing the CMS Villaverde: A Public Healthcare Center

Designed by the architectural studio, Estudio__Entresitio, the CMS Villaverde is a public healthcare center that stands out from its twin buildings. While the contrast between the two situations is solved using a tectonic constructive system, the CMS Villaverde does it in a smoother way. The building's exterior is camouflaged with its surroundings using white glass that reflects the neighboring buildings, making it almost disappear. However, the translucent walls allow for easy contact with the outside, creating a spacious and luminous interior environment with a certain atmospheric sense.

A Single-Floor Healthcare Program

The healthcare program of the CMS Villaverde is developed extensively on a single floor. The different program units are ordered by generating a sparse irregular orthogonal grid. Thirteen patios are distributed in a staggered pattern between public and private placements through three (non)-parallel corridors. This system of lighting, atomized by the courtyards, creates a unique and dynamic atmosphere within the building.

A Unique Tectonic Constructive System

The CMS Villaverde uses a unique tectonic constructive system that consists of metal frames with glass and polycarbonate enclosures with varying degrees of opacity and transparency. This system allows for a smooth contrast between the building and its surroundings. The translucent walls allow for easy contact with the outside, creating a spacious and luminous interior environment with a certain atmospheric sense. The transparent qualities of the glass multiply the reflected symmetry, while the qualities of reflection and diffuse lighting of the translucent polycarbonate vertical panels help create a unique atmosphere within the building.

A Modulated Continuous and Blind Facade

The impenetrable facade of the CMS Villaverde is conceived as a mass of glass modulated continuous and blind. This design allows for the building to seamlessly blend in with its surroundings while also creating a unique atmosphere within its walls. The CMS Villaverde is a perfect example of how a tectonic constructive system can be used to create a building that is both functional and beautiful.
