146 Coffee: Innovative Pop-Up Café in Shipping Container
Project's Summary
146 Coffee: A Unique Pop-Up Coffee Shop in a Shipping Container
Imagine a bustling office building with employees craving a designated smoking area. The challenge was to create a space that not only catered to the smokers but also provided a welcoming environment for all employees to enjoy a refreshing coffee break. That's when the innovative idea of a pop-up coffee shop in a shipping container came to life, courtesy of the Yellow Office architectural studio.
To make this vision a reality, a standard 20' naval container was ingeniously transformed into a contemporary café. One side of the container was replaced with a mobile panel, allowing for easy relocation to any desired spot within the building site. This flexibility meant that the coffee shop could adapt and evolve alongside the needs of the employees.
Located in the parking lot, the container café and its accompanying covered terrace cleverly occupy four parking spaces. What started as a simple smoking area soon morphed into an inviting island of relaxation and respite. Adorned with climbing plants and wire form elements in its furniture, the café exudes a natural charm that beckons employees to unwind between meetings.
Not content with being a mere functional space, the architects wanted the café to stand out as a landmark on the otherwise flat parking lot. To achieve this, the entrance was framed with a corten steel sheet profile, creating a silhouette reminiscent of a factory. This design element not only adds an aesthetic touch but also serves as a playful nod to the smoke rising from a chimney – a delightful inside joke understood only by those in the know.
The 146 Coffee project, brought to life by the Yellow Office architecture studio, has successfully transformed a mundane parking lot into a vibrant and versatile space for employees. By repurposing a shipping container, they have created a unique café that seamlessly blends function and style. Whether it's a quick smoke break or a leisurely coffee pause, the container café provides a refreshing escape for employees within the vicinity. So, the next time you find yourself in need of a pick-me-up, why not head over to 146 Coffee and enjoy a cup of joe in this innovative pop-up coffee shop?
