Inthamara House: Innovative Design in the Heart of Bangkok

Architectural Studio of Work – Aholic (ASWA) has recently completed the Inthamara House, a unique residential project located in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. This nonaligned windows house was designed to capture the essence of its surroundings, while still maintaining privacy for its residents.

Situated in a densely populated area, the Inthamara House stands out with its nonaligned openings on the front facade. These unconventional windows not only allow for the influx of natural light throughout the day, but also create captivating play of light and shadow, highlighting the dynamic changes of the environment with each passing season. Acting as picture frames, these openings beautifully frame the views of the surrounding context, providing an ever-changing backdrop for the residents.

One of the main challenges faced by the architects was the limited context due to the adjacent apartment building. To overcome this constraint, the front facade was strategically designed to ensure that sufficient light enters the space, brightening up the interior. This clever solution not only addresses the need for natural light but also promotes a sense of openness and connection to the outside world.

The Inthamara House is spread across four stories, with the double-height living area occupying the second floor. By incorporating nonaligned openings on the street side of the house, the architects have successfully brought in ample natural light, creating a bright and inviting space. This design choice not only enhances the visual appeal but also provides glimpses of the neighborhood, allowing the residents to feel connected to their surroundings.

The first floor of the house houses a small gym and the service area, while the second floor serves as the main living area, comprising the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The master bedroom is located on the third floor, offering a vantage point to overlook the living area below. Finally, the fourth floor features two additional bedrooms, which offer panoramic views of the surrounding area along the corridor.
