Filandón Restaurant: Modern Rustic Design in Madrid Outskirts
Project's Summary
A FILANDÓN RESTAURANT project, created by the ISABELLOPEZVILALTA+ASSOCIATES architectural studio, brings together contemporary design and rustic elements in a stunning location on the outskirts of Madrid. The restaurant is a perfect blend of traditional materials like clay, granite, and wood, creating a modern and inviting atmosphere for the tasting of high-quality culinary products.
The name of the restaurant is inspired by a Cantabrian-Galician tradition called "Filandón," where women would gather in the evening to spin and chat. This tradition has served as the main inspiration for the project, infusing it with a sense of community and warmth.
The restaurant is comprised of three buildings, seamlessly connected around a central courtyard. Upon entering through the granite courtyard, visitors are greeted with a space that serves as a link between the two main blocks of the complex. The first building, constructed with granite and wood, features trusses that support the roof, reminiscent of the traditional "teito" buildings found in northern Cantabria. These buildings, made of stone and covered with vegetation, were historically used as pantries.
The second building stands out with its series of buttresses, dividing the space into different environments. Sliding doors provide access to a spacious area suitable for hosting events of various sizes. The use of granite and clay in this construction further emphasizes the rustic tradition of León. The roof, made of zinc, pays homage to the palatial architecture found in the interior and central regions of the country.
The third block of the restaurant showcases a contemporary take on traditional materials. Natural wood and terracotta flooring add a touch of warmth to the space, complemented by carefully designed lighting. The large windows and terraces create a seamless connection between the interior and exterior, allowing guests to enjoy the surrounding landscape.
The landscape surrounding the restaurant plays a significant role in the overall architectural ensemble. It harmoniously blends with the design, further enhancing the restaurant's ambiance. The FILANDÓN RESTAURANT project by ISABELLOPEZVILALTA+ASSOCIATES offers a unique dining experience, combining modern aesthetics with traditional elements, and immersing guests in a truly remarkable setting.
