Revitalizing Capitol Hill: Dunn Motors Building - A Stunning Mixed-Use Development by Studio Meng Strazzara
Project's Summary
Seattle-based architectural firm Studio Meng Strazzara collaborated with Hunters Capital on a remarkable development project in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The project involved transforming a two-story historic building into an impressive eight-story mixed-use development. Located at 501 East Pike Street, the building's original façade, dating back to 1925, was preserved and renovated to retain its charm.
The redevelopment aimed to expand the existing structure to accommodate 89 housing units, 7,000 square feet of retail space, and 5,000 square feet of office space. To seamlessly blend the historic building with the new additions, the team at Studio Meng Strazzara ingeniously adapted the original cast stone façade, adorned with classical ornamentation, for reuse at the commercial street level and second-floor office spaces overlooking East Pike.
To further enhance the building's aesthetic appeal and harmonize it with the surrounding neighborhood, new cast stone cladding was employed. This new addition artfully blended with the historic base of the structure, creating a cohesive and visually pleasing design. Additionally, the project incorporated new landscaping and paving to beautify the sidewalk, while balconies, garden terraces, and courtyards were added to provide residents with delightful amenities.
One of the standout features of the development is the rooftop terrace, which offers breathtaking views of downtown Seattle. Equipped with BBQ facilities, gardens, and comfortable seating, this communal space provides residents with a serene escape within the heart of the city.
The collaboration between Studio Meng Strazzara and Hunters Capital has resulted in an exceptional mixed-use development that seamlessly combines the beauty of the original historic building with modern architectural elements. The project's thoughtful design, attention to detail, and incorporation of attractive amenities have undoubtedly contributed to the enhancement of the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
