Project's Summary

Located in the suburbs of Kotte, Sri Lanka, on a sprawling acre of land, the Coconut House project by a-designstudio architectural studio seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings. Nestled amidst lush paddy fields and coconut groves indigenous to Sri Lanka, the property preserves the untouched beauty of its backdrop. With a focus on maintaining the integrity of the environment, the dwelling boasts two generously spaced bedrooms that offer private views of the serene surroundings.

The seamless flow of the Coconut House is evident as the adjoining living and dining spaces lead to an open outdoor deck crafted from reclaimed timber. This deck serves as a tranquil space to unwind and connect with nature. Furthermore, the open pool area serves as a subtle barrier, ensuring privacy between the master bedroom and the living spaces while seamlessly integrating them.

Architecturally, the Coconut House stands elevated from the ground level, providing a grander view of the natural environment. The materials used in its construction are deliberately chosen to mimic the lush wilderness. The rough-cut cement earth-toned flooring, shuttering finished exposed concrete soffit and walls, and treated timber with a weathered finish all contribute to the dwelling's unique charm.

One of the distinguishing features of the Coconut House is its ability to harmoniously fuse with its natural setting. The design aims to create a space that appears as though it has always been a part of the surrounding landscape. By utilizing raw materials and keeping the architectural elements simple yet elegant, the Coconut House becomes an organic extension of its environment.

In summary, the Coconut House project by a-designstudio architectural studio in Kotte, Sri Lanka, is a testament to the harmony that can be achieved between architecture and nature. With its spacious bedrooms, open living spaces, and seamless integration with the outdoors, this dwelling allows residents to fully immerse themselves in the serene beauty of the Sri Lankan countryside. By utilizing raw materials and maintaining a minimalist design, the Coconut House showcases the art of blending human habitation with the natural world.
