Transforming an Auto Dealership into a Sophisticated Upscale Restaurant - Captain Restaurant

ZarrinMoayery Studio, an architectural firm based in Tehran, Iran, has recently undertaken the Capitan Restaurant project. The aim of this interior design project was to transform an old auto dealership into a sophisticated and upscale hospitality space. With a total area of 15,000 square feet, the project encompasses various levels, including a basement, ground level, two small private lounges, a non-alcoholic bar and lounge on the first floor, and a rooftop garden.

The design process for the Capitan Restaurant began in August 2017, and construction was completed by the end of April. The client's vision for the establishment was to create an Instagram-worthy space with an industrial aesthetic. The ground floor, with its high ceiling, was designated as the main dining area for families. Meanwhile, the first floor was reserved for the non-alcoholic bar and lounge, catering to the younger generation. To accommodate the high demand for seating at the bar counter, the client requested an extension to its length. Additionally, to provide privacy for groups, two small half-story spaces were planned with thematic designs, including one inspired by a captain's cabin to align with the restaurant's name.

Maximizing the hospitality floor area was a key consideration, leading to the installation of foldable canopies on the rooftop, transforming it into a charming roof garden. In line with the project requirements, two primary design guidelines were established: the use of earth-tone materials with minimal decorations and the highlighting of these materials under appropriate lighting conditions.

To enhance the grandeur of the ground floor, large round lights were designed to create a sense of majesty and divide the space into four main bays. Conversely, the first floor required more direct lighting to maintain control over ambient light levels. With the exception of the bar counter, the aim was to minimize ambient light in this area.

By adhering to a consistent palette of materials, allocating suitable functions to diverse spaces, and skillfully manipulating lighting, the Captain Restaurant will undoubtedly captivate a broad range of patrons, offering them a pleasurable dining experience. This project showcases the expertise and creativity of ZarrinMoayery Studio, as they continue to deliver remarkable architectural designs in Tehran, Iran.
