Revitalizing Bethesda Avenue: Inspiring Lobby Renovation
Project's Summary
ESOARC Studio, an architectural firm, has recently embarked on an exciting lobby renovation project for Bethesda Avenue. The renovation begins with a stunning three-story, day-lit, open stair case that is easily accessible from the street. Behind the stair case lies a small elevator lobby, followed by a utility corridor. The existing design required minimal modifications, allowing the team to focus on updating the main finishes.
To create a timeless backdrop for the lobby, the design team opted for a combination of modest wood and gray tones. However, they also wanted to incorporate elements that could be easily updated in the future. As a result, they devised a plan to include a cascading light fixture and a large three-story graphic art piece that would seamlessly tie each floor of the stair case together.
In line with the progressive urban vibe of Bethesda Row, the design proposed several options for large wallcoverings or graphics, including the unique choice of graffiti. The team was thrilled when the graffiti option was approved, and they eagerly volunteered to find a talented artist to apply a real street art mural to the brightly lit space. The vibrant colors of the spray-painted mural can now be seen from the street through the storefront on the first floor, as well as through the large two-story window, which illuminates the open stair case above.
The mural serves as a warm welcome to business patrons as they enter the lobby and accompanies them as they ascend the stairs to their various destinations. With a polished concrete floor below and an impressive large-scale light sculpture above, the mural truly becomes the focal point of the space. Its eye-catching colors and intricate details captivate passersby both inside and outside the building, adding a touch of vibrancy and creativity to the entire area.
ESOARC Studio's lobby renovation project on Bethesda Avenue has successfully transformed a once ordinary space into a visually striking and dynamic environment. The combination of the open stair case, the cascading light fixture, and the captivating street art mural has breathed new life into the lobby, creating an engaging experience for all who visit.
