Project's Summary

The Baroque Court Apartments project represents a remarkable transformation in the heart of Ljubljana, Slovenia. This initiative involves the renovation of three historic Baroque block houses, strategically located next to the City Hall and opposite the iconic Robba Fountain. The project aims to revitalize and connect these structures into a cohesive unit, creating 12 modern apartments around a beautifully reimagined internal courtyard.

The existing condition of the buildings revealed significant historical elements that are now being lovingly restored. The ground floor houses a charming bookshop, while the upper floors, previously used as offices, are being adapted for contemporary living. The internal courtyard, once a closed-off service space for air conditioning, is being transformed into a vibrant, open-air light well that fosters communication and interaction among residents.

A key aspect of the design is the careful reconstruction of the Baroque elevations facing the street, which will be returned to their original splendor. In contrast, the internal courtyard will be revitalized with a fully glazed envelope, allowing ample natural light to flood into the apartments. Reflective elements will enhance the historic features, such as stone arches and pillars, creating a dialogue between the past and present while providing a unique interior aesthetic.

Sustainability is at the forefront of the Baroque Court Apartments project. The design maximizes living space while ensuring natural light and ventilation throughout. The central atrium acts as a light generator, and the reflective facades bring sunlight deep into the apartments. With triple-glazed windows and enhanced thermal insulation, the apartments are designed for low energy consumption, promoting an eco-friendly lifestyle.

In summary, the Baroque Court Apartments not only preserve the historical essence of Ljubljana but also embrace modern architectural principles. This renovation transforms the internal courtyard into a contemporary garden space, while the transparent design enhances communication between residents. The project exemplifies how heritage and innovation can coexist, creating a sustainable living environment that respects the past while looking towards the future.
