535 West End Avenue - ALine Studio Luxury Lounge
Project's Summary
535 West End Avenue is a stunning pre-war style building located in the Upper West Side, transformed into a luxurious space by ALine Studio. Commissioned in 2015, the studio was tasked with designing an upscale, adult-only lounge, where residents could host events ranging from cocktail parties to conferences. Originally a studio apartment, the space underwent a complete renovation, providing a blank canvas for ALine Studio to demonstrate their architectural prowess.

The lounge's conference area features a remarkable faux fireplace crafted from beautiful bookmatched marble, reminiscent of petrified wood. This exquisite stone is complemented by custom built-in bookcases, creating a harmonious balance within the space. Tufted window seats nestled in the deep window sills enhance the elegantly curved facade of the building, while sunlight floods the room, illuminating the custom-designed 8-foot wood slab live-edge walnut table, supported by solid brass wishbone-shaped legs. The coved ceilings, adorned with brass Sputnik-like chandeliers and champagne leafing, create a warm and inviting atmosphere that captivates visitors. The floor is finished with honed Blue Cielo marble, framed by a black marble double border inlay, adding an air of sophistication.

Defining the sitting area is a stunning grey and white marbled cowhide rug sourced from Argentina. Custom lounge chairs, upholstered in luxurious blue leather on the inside and fuzzy mohair on the outside, offer both comfort and style. The intricate details, including leather straps and contrast welting, make these chairs inviting focal points in the lounge. A buttery soft leather banquette bench is tucked into a niche, featuring tufted royal blue velvet upholstered from floor to ceiling, creating a striking visual contrast. Recessed lighting enhances the sheen and depth of the velvet-covered wall, while bar height tables and iconic Bertoia wire collection bar chairs provide the perfect space for relaxation or productivity.

Across from the sitting area lies the exquisite bar top, crafted from Kenya Black marble. This stunning feature serves as a counterbalance to the faux fireplace, effectively connecting both sides of the room. The monolithic stone face of the bar is downlit to create a warm ambiance. Additional Bertoia bar chairs add a modern metal contrast to the stone aesthetic. Behind the bar, a built-in undercounter beverage refrigerator and a striking nickel sink with a brass faucet enhance functionality. The back bar wall, finished with antiqued mirror tiles laid in a herringbone pattern within a golden glass border, reflects light and adds depth to the room, while delicate brass cylindrical pendants hang overhead, accentuating the elegance of the space.
The design of the amenity space at 535 West End Avenue was meticulously crafted by ALine Studio, focusing on the art of mixing metals — particularly nickel and brass. Every detail, from the tailor-made furnishings to the high-end finishes, was thoughtfully considered, resulting in a space that embodies exceptional beauty and luxury. The culmination of sophisticated design elements creates an environment that is both inviting and prestigious, making 535 West End Avenue a truly remarkable destination for residents and guests alike.
