Residence T: Modern Living in Trnava, Slovakia
Project's Summary
Residence T is a groundbreaking architectural endeavor located in the heart of Trnava, Slovakia. This innovative apartment building is co-authored by Jakub Kypus, with the garden architecture designed by Andrea Prievalská. The project's design integrates seamlessly into the existing urban fabric, positioned strategically near the R1 expressway, providing easy access and connectivity. The project's location, previously occupied by a football field and technical infrastructure, has been artfully transformed to enhance the urban landscape while addressing practical considerations such as the DN 400 heat pipe protection zones, which shaped the building's footprint and orientation.

The architectural design of Residence T prioritizes not only aesthetic appeal but also functional sustainability. The massing of the building is intentionally crafted to serve as a noise barrier while optimizing passive solar gains through its south-facing facade. This careful orientation allows for ample natural light to flood the living spaces, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The height of the building is thoughtfully designed to transition smoothly between the existing family homes and apartment structures, fostering a sense of community and continuity within the urban environment. By incorporating semi-private spaces dedicated to leisure activities, the design aims to enhance the quality of life for its residents and encourage social interaction within the neighborhood.

A distinctive feature of Residence T is its innovative partial recession into the terrain, which alleviates the visual impact of static transport and prioritizes pedestrian-friendly access. The design emphasizes the importance of leisure and activity spaces for both residents and visitors, promoting a vibrant community atmosphere. As one navigates through the property, the architectural composition reveals a dynamic interplay between the building's mass and the surrounding landscape, providing opportunities for interaction and engagement with the environment. The strategic placement of entrances and communal areas ensures ease of movement and accessibility for all users.

Each apartment within Residence T is meticulously designed with a focus on maximizing natural light and minimizing noise pollution, ensuring a tranquil living experience. The building features a variety of one-room and two-room flats, with additional community spaces like the rooftop terrace that encourages social gatherings and relaxation. This community terrace is designed for leisure activities such as gardening, grilling, and enjoying the panoramic views of Trnava. The multifunctional ground floor provides flexible rental spaces, fostering economic activity and community engagement in the area. Furthermore, the underground garage enhances convenience for residents while maintaining the aesthetic continuity of the streetscape.

The landscape design surrounding Residence T is equally ambitious, with a focus on biodiversity and ecological sustainability. The concept divides the green spaces into two functional areas, integrating trees, shrubs, and flowering plants to enhance the microclimate and provide recreational opportunities. The design incorporates rain gardens that capture stormwater runoff, contributing to the blue-green infrastructure of the area. By prioritizing native species and creating visual barriers against noise and pollution, the landscape design not only beautifies the environment but also supports ecological resilience. This thoughtful integration of architecture and nature reflects a modern approach to urban living, promoting a sustainable and healthy lifestyle for all residents.
