Project's Summary

Neuperlach, once grappling with social and infrastructural challenges typical of post-WW2 urban developments, stands as the largest of its kind in Germany. Originally envisioned with over 80,000 housing units and a range of cultural and social functions, the masterplan for this vast district was never fully realized. This has added to the impression of neglect in the area, but a transformative journey is underway, marking one of the largest ongoing developments in Germany.

A target area of 500 hectares initiates the process, guided by specific preliminary investigations that underscore the project’s commitment to thorough and thoughtful planning.

The focus is not only on the physical transformation but also on fostering citizen involvement and creating recommendations for sustainable future growth. Neuperlach's building volume and its modernistic urban layout present significant development potential, particularly due to the open spaces that are increasingly rare in Munich.
