Project's Summary

Introducing the Museum of the Greaterpoland Uprising: A Proposal

AIDIA STUDIO, an architectural studio, has proposed the development of the Museum of the Greaterpoland Uprising. The project is guided by two main principles: to create a complex that blends in with the surrounding environment and to provide visitors with an immersive experience. The museum will feature open spaces, courtyards, accessible roof tops, a memorial for the heroes of the uprising, and a viewing point 30 meters high that offers panoramic views of the city.

Design and Layout of the Museum

The museum will rise gradually from south to north, blending in with the park and peaking at the north-end grand entrance plaza. The entrance plaza will be flanked by an eight-story building that will serve as a landmark within the city and an attraction point. The building will house offices and administration units and will also have a viewing platform on the top level that will provide 360-degree views over Poznan.

The museum's front square will serve as the access point to the museum, the administration building, and the education center. The education center will be located on the left-hand side of the plaza, underneath the grand cantilever, with a transparent lobby that leads into an auditorium space. The permanent galleries will be spread around the south side of the complex in two levels, B1 and GF, with passages connecting the galleries that are orientated towards the internal courtyards.

Museography and Materials

The museography will engage visitors with big scale projections, engaging movies, and interactive installations made from photos, maps, and small exhibits. The atmosphere of the exhibition will be dimmed, mysterious, and dramatic, transporting the viewer right into the middle of the uprising events. The building will have two contrasting materials and tectonic qualities: rough, opaque concrete covering the main buildings and black casted iron in the form of shading panels for the offices and the circulation walkways.
