Project's Summary

The MHS house, located in the picturesque province of Maehongsorn in northern Thailand, is a small house project designed by ASWA (Architectural Studio of Work - Aholic) for a German-Thai couple. Inspired by the surrounding mountains, the architect aimed to create a house that resembled a sculptural form, resulting in a unique and visually striking design.

Comprising of three concrete structure boxes stacked and shifted from each other, the house offers a modern and contemporary living space. The ground floor serves as the main living area, complete with a small pantry and restroom. Moving up to the second floor, you will find a spacious working room, which also features a terrace that overlaps with the first floor. This terrace is home to a jacuzzi, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the breathtaking views. The master bedroom and master restroom are situated on the top floor, boasting a glass window that allows residents to take in the stunning mountain scenery.

To enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the house, the architect chose to use artificial wood cladding on the second and third floors. This choice not only creates a warm and inviting atmosphere but also adds a lightweight element to the overall design. In contrast, the first floor is adorned with a plaster cement wall, providing a solid and sturdy base for the house.

Each of the three boxes that make up the MHS house has a similar dimension of 6.60 by 6.60 meters and stands at a height of 3.45 meters. With a total area of around 135 square meters, the house offers ample space for comfortable living. Energy efficiency was a key consideration in the design, with natural ventilation being a primary focus. Additionally, the rooftop is equipped with solar cell panels, ensuring a sustainable source of electricity for hot water.

The MHS house is a testament to the creative vision and expertise of ASWA, delivering a harmonious blend of modern architecture and natural surroundings. Its unique design, coupled with its energy-efficient features, makes it a truly remarkable residence in the heart of Maehongsorn. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply looking for a tranquil retreat, this house offers the perfect sanctuary to unwind and appreciate the beauty of its surroundings.
