Krasnogvardeisky Ponds Project by Wowhaus
Project's Summary
The Krasnogvardeisky Ponds project stands as a remarkable testament to urban design that harmonizes historical elements with contemporary needs. Nestled within the vibrant landscape of Moscow, this project not only preserves the legacy of the Krasnaya Presnya Park but also enhances it by creating a seamless recreational area. The integration of sociological research conducted by Wowhaus has laid the foundation for a dynamic space that caters to families and active individuals alike. By carefully balancing recreational functions and maintaining the park's existing structure, the design fosters a sense of community while ensuring comfort and safety for all visitors.

Encompassing a series of interconnected ponds, the Krasnogvardeisky Ponds stretch from Zvenigorodsky Highway in the north to the 1st Krasnogvardeisky Driveway in the south. Historically significant, these ponds were established in the early XVIII century as part of the Gagarin Studenets estate and have been thoughtfully redesigned to reflect the historical context while embracing modern architectural principles. Each fragment of the project offers a unique character, with specific functions tailored to the needs of the community. The careful consideration of landscape design elements ensures that the natural beauty of the site is accentuated, enhancing the overall environment.

The design approach includes the creation of five distinct fragments, each with its own purpose and aesthetic appeal. The first fragment, a 'family sports and educational park,' maintains a wild, forest-like atmosphere, with natural plant selections that resonate with the surrounding landscape. An inviting entrance zone, featuring pavilions and a light structural pergola, beckons visitors to explore the rejuvenated park. Furthermore, the concept of a 'secret garden' enriches the experience with walking routes, observation platforms, and recreational facilities that cater to diverse activities such as yoga and outdoor workouts.

As visitors journey through the project, they will discover the upper pond, designed as a contemplative space with a multi-level deck and duck houses, while the central fragment boasts classical park elements that harmonize with its historical roots. A newly relocated monument serves as a focal point, enhancing the cultural significance of the area. The project culminates in the romantic ambiance of the middle pond, complete with gazebos and decorative lighting, while the lower pond transforms into a vibrant hub for sports and entertainment, featuring a floating stage for concerts.

Ultimately, the Krasnogvardeisky Ponds project exemplifies the fusion of nature and urban life, creating an engaging environment for recreation and community connection. With its thoughtful design, attention to historical context, and commitment to enhancing the quality of urban living, Wowhaus has successfully crafted a space that invites residents and visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty and tranquility of this revitalized landscape.
