Project's Summary

KIDO sushi bar, an innovative project by DA architects, is a standout establishment located in one of St. Petersburg's vibrant dormitory districts. This sushi bar is not just a place to eat; it is a carefully crafted architectural experience that draws the eye of both pedestrians and motorists alike. It was essential for the design to create a captivating interior that would invite curiosity and encourage people to explore this new dining destination.

The space itself was modestly sized, which posed a unique challenge for the architects. Their goal was to maintain the inherent simplicity of the area while introducing a striking focal point. This led to the creation of an extraordinary wooden structure that commands attention. Comprising over 400 volumetric triangles, this architectural feature cascades from the wall to the ceiling, mimicking the fluidity of ocean waves. It envelops the main dining area, creating a protective 'shell' that enhances the overall ambiance of the restaurant.

Visually, the design aims to evoke a sense of Asian influence without resorting to clichéd motifs commonly found in many oriental establishments. The triangular structure serves as a sophisticated nod to traditional Asian wooden constructions, geometric patterns typical in Japanese design, and even elements reminiscent of origami. This clever use of shapes and forms allows the restaurant to maintain a modern aesthetic while still paying homage to its cultural inspirations.

The overall interior design is purposefully understated, with a minimalistic palette that features muted gray tones for the walls and flooring. This choice ensures that the unique wooden structures are the stars of the show. Complementing this simplicity, the furniture incorporates elegant black accents that enhance the dining experience while adding to the sophistication of the space. The second hall introduces a contrasting yet harmonious mood, where the wooden structures evoke the serenity of a bamboo grove, further enriched by violet backlighting that reflects the signature color of the KIDO network.

KIDO sushi bar is more than just a dining venue; it is a testament to the power of architectural design in shaping experiences. DA architects have successfully transformed a small sushi bar into a landmark that captures the imagination and invites guests to enjoy a meal in a setting that is both intimate and visually striking. This project exemplifies how thoughtful architecture can create spaces that not only serve a function but also provide an emotional connection to their surroundings.
