Project's Summary

Kayu-Kayu is a remarkable restaurant and venue space that has been specifically designed to cater to family gatherings, corporate events, and casual hangouts. What sets this establishment apart is the diverse background of its clients, which includes skilled wood craftsmen, furniture makers, and garment artisans. This unique combination of talents has played a pivotal role in shaping the design process right from the beginning.

One of the most captivating aspects of Kayu-Kayu is its facade, which draws inspiration from the vast array of wood logs found in the clients' warehouse. These logs, which are suspended four meters above the ground, create a mesmerizing visual effect as customers walk underneath them while entering the building. Not only do they add a touch of lightness to the overall ambiance, but they also serve as a shading device for the west-facing facade. Symbolically, they represent the essence of Kayu-Kayu Restaurant.

Inside the establishment, the open floor plans have been meticulously organized using a structural grid of six meters for optimum efficiency. A void in the middle allows for vertical circulation and is further enhanced by an operable skylight above. The focal point of this space is the double spiral staircase that elegantly wraps around a majestic Alstonia tree. Just below, a serene koi fishpond adds a touch of tranquility to the surroundings. While the first floor primarily serves as a restaurant and cafe, the second floor is dedicated to event spaces, complete with a bar and a terrace that overlooks the enchanting garden area.

Every detail of Kayu-Kayu has been thoughtfully designed, from the intricate spiral staircase to the door window frames and skylights. The custom-made joinery, crafted by local artisans, beautifully showcases the seamless blend of wood and steel. The use of locally sourced materials further adds to the establishment's commitment to supporting the local community.

Kayu-Kayu Restaurant is more than just a place to dine or host events; it is a boutique hotel that exudes an unmistakable artisan personality. With its captivating facade and interiors, adorned with floating wood logs and recycled wooden furniture, sculptures, and decorations, the establishment effortlessly brings nature indoors. The result is a bright, breezy, and lush environment that truly sets Kayu-Kayu apart from the rest.
