Wirral Waters' Ambitious Master Plan for 500 Homes Takes a Momentous Leap Forward
A momentous leap has propelled forward a visionary proposal encompassing 500 homes within the historic Birkenhead docklands. This groundbreaking project forms an integral part of Peel L&P's grandiose Wirral Waters master plan, an extensive 25-year endeavor aimed at erecting up to 13,000 residences in the region. Known as Wirral Waters One, this residential development has now been entrusted to esteemed construction firm Graham, as bestowed by the pertinent corporation. The green light for the plans has cleared the path for the largest single development to commence in Wirral Waters this forthcoming spring.
The inaugural phase, aptly named Wirral First, will showcase 100 new waterfront dwellings specially designated as "affordable." This diverse range of abodes encompasses studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, with a rental ceiling set at 80% of the prevailing market value. Embracing the waterfront essence, the project's design incorporates cutting-edge low-carbon technologies to minimize emissions and boasts verdant parks, serene dockside promenades, and cyclist-friendly lanes.
In addition, residents will enjoy an array of amenities, including bicycle storage facilities and electric vehicle charging stations. Wirral Waters envisions this groundbreaking initiative as a catalyst for forthcoming endeavors, including the construction of the esteemed Belong Village, a state-of-the-art dementia care facility scheduled to break ground this spring. "The involvement of Graham marks a significant stride towards witnessing heightened construction and delivery activity at Wirral Waters," declared Richard Mawdsley, Peel L&P's astute head of development for Wirral Waters. Graham, a well-established construction contractor renowned for its unwavering commitment to social responsibility, will join forces with Peel L&P to provide additional opportunities for construction students at Wirral Met College throughout the transformative two-and-a-half-year construction phase of this visionary project.
Cllr Tony Jones, Chair of Wirral Council's esteemed Economy, Renewal, and Development Committee, expressed, "From Bromborough to Birkenhead and Wallasey to New Brighton, the revered Left Bank region of Wirral beckons revitalization. Wirral has already experienced significant influxes of investment and the commencement of construction projects." Acknowledging the importance of this prominent site and its contribution to addressing the housing demand, the esteemed Labour councillor remarked, "The selection of construction firm Graham for Wirral Waters marks a pivotal next stride in delivering new homes, including a substantial number of affordable residences. Wirral Council has worked closely alongside Peel L&P and other esteemed partners for numerous years to facilitate sustainable development within the dockland vicinity, and it is truly inspiring to witness this progress and the unwavering commitment to local employment and supply chains, ensuring immediate benefits for the local community.
