Project's Summary

The Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) is showcasing its dedication to sustainable design with the introduction of the new IAIA Lloyd Kiva New Welcome Center. This state-of-the-art facility is set to house several crucial departments within IAIA, including Human Resources, Academic Recruiting, Institutional Advancement, Information Technology, Finance, Sponsor Foundations, and the President’s Office. Additionally, the center will feature gallery spaces to exhibit student and donated artwork, as well as an IT/Tech Center to assist students and staff with technical matters. Situated adjacent to the recently completed Science and Technology Building, the new Welcome Center boasts ample windows that flood the interior with natural light and offer breathtaking views of the surroundings.

As the prominent face of IAIA, the Welcome Center holds great significance on campus and serves as a focal point for visitors. While the facility's exterior design respects the existing architecture, it also showcases a contemporary touch through the use of modern materials and forms. The placement of the center honors the solar paths and preserves the east/west axis by providing a direct view from the ceremonial courtyard to the Hogan building on the east side of the campus. This intentional design ensures that the IAIA Lloyd Kiva New Welcome Center seamlessly blends with its surroundings while making a bold statement.

The IAIA Lloyd Kiva New Welcome Center project has been brought to life by the esteemed Dyron Murphy Architects, P.C. architectural studio. With their expertise, the center not only promotes sustainability but also exemplifies the university's commitment to providing essential services to its students and faculty. By offering office space for various critical departments, the center streamlines operations and enhances collaboration within IAIA.

In conclusion, the IAIA Lloyd Kiva New Welcome Center is a testament to IAIA's dedication to sustainable design and commitment to supporting its community. This cutting-edge facility not only provides much-needed office space but also showcases student and donated artwork, as well as an IT/Tech Center to address technical issues. With its strategic location and thoughtful design, the Welcome Center serves as a significant landmark on the IAIA campus, harmoniously blending with the existing architecture while making a contemporary statement.
