Casa Luis: A Stunning Residential House Embracing Nature and Panoramic Views

Casa Luis is a stunning residential house designed by Messner Architects for a young family of six. The key considerations for the design were to maximize the view and natural light, ensure privacy, and create spacious open areas. The architectural composition of the terrain, the orientation towards sunlight, and building regulations also played a crucial role in shaping the design.

Situated between neighboring buildings to the south and north, with a street passing by on the southwest, Casa Luis is strategically positioned to make the most of its surroundings. On the northeast side, the house is embraced by wooded hills, gently sloping meadows, and natural stonewalls, providing a picturesque backdrop against the panoramic mountain scenery of the Dolomites.

The house is spread across three floors. The partially underground basement serves as storage space, cellar rooms, a garage, and houses technical facilities. The ground floor accommodates a compact housing unit, while the spacious apartment is located on the projecting first floor. A striking feature of the design is the staircase that runs along a glazed airspace, acting as a light-catcher for the entire entrance area.

To fully immerse the residents in the breathtaking landscape, the living spaces on the ground and first floors feature floor-to-ceiling glazing, opening up to the surrounding views. In contrast, the facades facing the street side are more closed-off, prioritizing privacy. The architectural design seamlessly integrates with the topography of the property, with retaining walls and other elements transforming the terrain. The garden and living spaces on different levels are interconnected through stairs and ramps, creating a harmonious connection between the building and its surroundings.

The realization of Casa Luis involved the expertise of several professionals. Ing. Rodolfo Senoner conducted the structural analysis, ensuring the stability and durability of the construction. Energypro, an energy project and consulting firm, provided their expertise in optimizing the building's energy efficiency. The construction was carried out by Trojer Bau, Askeen, Moling, Steinmair, and Elektro Rottensteiner, who executed the project with precision and attention to detail.
