Contemporary Bakery Design: Au Pain Doré Revamped
Project's Summary
Au Pain Doré, a bakery located on the ground floor of a three-story building on Côte-des-Neiges, has recently undergone significant renovations to give the chain a more contemporary look. Inspired by the European concept of a bakery/café, where the sale of baked goods is combined with high-quality coffee and the barista takes center stage, Au Pain Doré aimed to revamp its interior organization and design. To achieve this, they enlisted the help of the architectural studio _naturehumaine, which created a stunning project that translated the essence of the bakery into a spatial concept.
The most notable change in the bakery is the extension in the back, which has added a spacious 1500 sqft unit. This additional space allowed for the complete redesign of the interior organization. Drawing inspiration from the lattice of wooden bread baskets, the spatial concept revolves around a structural wooden frame that holds a series of randomized wood slats, creating a lattice-like structure. This lattice not only adds visual interest but also serves practical purposes, opening and closing to accommodate lighting and ventilation.
As you enter the bakery, the randomized rhythmic lattice immediately catches the eye and provides a dynamic atmosphere. The lattice extends down the walls, transforming into shelves for displaying bread and pastries, as well as functional elements like benches and counter tops. This clever design not only optimizes the use of space but also adds a touch of uniqueness to the bakery.
The overall result of the renovations is a bakery that has successfully embraced a contemporary aesthetic while honoring its European inspiration. The lattice structure, with its interplay of light and shadow, creates an inviting and visually captivating environment for customers. The combination of the bakery and café elements, with the barista at the center stage, provides a seamless experience for patrons looking to enjoy both delicious baked goods and quality coffee.
In conclusion, the architectural studio _naturehumaine has transformed Au Pain Doré into a modern and visually striking bakery. With the addition of a spacious extension and the clever use of a wooden lattice structure, the bakery now boasts a contemporary look that reflects its European bakery/café concept. This renovation has not only improved the interior organization but also enhanced the overall customer experience, making Au Pain Doré a must-visit destination for those seeking a delightful combination of baked goods and high-quality coffee.
