Serenbe House: Exquisite Sustainable Living in Serenbe Community
Project's Summary
Serenbe, a new community settlement, stands as a testament to the principles of environmental sustainability. Every aspect of its design revolves around the concept of preserving the environment. The houses in this community are constructed based on the stringent guidelines of the EarthCraft House Program. These guidelines encompass energy efficiency, water conservation, and the use of resource-efficient building materials and systems.
One remarkable feature of these houses is the innovative way they harvest rainwater for onsite irrigation. The roofs are designed with an inclined butterfly shape that channels rainwater through a central scupper. This scupper is connected to a 14-foot cantilevered trough, which ultimately spills the water into a retention pond beneath the home. During rainfall, this trough creates a mesmerizing plume of falling water, turning the event into an experiential spectacle for the residents.
In adherence to local covenants, the homes are strategically situated a mere 25 feet away from the street. This close proximity encourages a sense of community and facilitates interaction between neighbors. Adding to the charm is the inclusion of a deep porch, where inhabitants can engage with their neighbors and enjoy the outdoors. Accessible through an elevated footbridge, the porch serves as a welcoming entry point for visitors while simultaneously creating a subtle separation for the privacy of the residents.
The Serenbe House project, brought to life by the renowned Turkel Design architectural studio, is a true embodiment of sustainable living. Through their meticulous attention to detail and commitment to environmental stewardship, they have created a community that seamlessly blends modern living with nature. Each house built according to the EarthCraft House Program standards is not only a model of energy efficiency and resource conservation but also a testament to the power of design to shape a sustainable future.
In conclusion, the settlement of Serenbe serves as a shining example of a community designed with environmental sustainability at its core. The houses, constructed to meet the rigorous standards of the EarthCraft House Program, prioritize energy efficiency, water conservation, and the use of resource-efficient building materials and systems. The innovative rainwater harvesting system, along with the thoughtful placement of the homes and the inclusion of inviting porches, fosters a sense of community and connection with nature. The Serenbe House project, masterfully brought to life by Turkel Design, showcases the potential of sustainable design to create harmonious and eco-friendly living spaces.
