Project's Summary
Located just south of the Washington Park Playfield and Arboretum, the Madison Valley Mixed-Use project is set to enhance the vibrant retail core along E Madison Street while promoting walkability within the neighborhood. Designed by the esteemed Studio Meng Strazzara architectural studio, this new development aims to cater to the pedestrian lifestyle by combining a local natural foods market and a unique corner retail space with 76 modern apartments and 6 townhomes.
Challenged by the steeply sloped, triangular-shaped lot, the design team had to carefully consider the surrounding neighborhood commercial and single-family zoning. The project successfully addresses this challenge by responding to each frontage in a thoughtful manner. Along the commercial corridor, the building boasts widened sidewalks and a scale that harmonizes with the residential buildings across the street. This approach encourages gathering and fosters a sense of community activity, enhancing the overall appeal of the area.
As the project transitions towards the adjacent single-family homes, the building gracefully tiers down the hillside. Here, two-story townhomes adorned with lush trees and gardens create a welcoming atmosphere along the quieter residential street. This design choice both respects the existing character of the neighborhood and provides a seamless integration between the new development and its surroundings.
At the north end of the project, a winding stairway enveloped by lush vegetation will serve as a new connection for residents. This stairway not only provides convenient access to the retail corridor but also offers a direct route to the picturesque park located just across the street. This nature-inspired element further contributes to the overall pedestrian-friendly design of the Madison Valley Mixed-Use project.
