Project's Summary

Inspire on 22nd: A Contemporary Housing Option in West Campus

Rhode Partners, an architectural studio, partnered with a campus ministry group and a prominent developer of nationwide student living to create Inspire on 22nd. This 18-story tower, located in the West Campus neighborhood of Austin, TX, provides students with a contemporary and accessible housing option. The tower includes 129 furnished units as well as mixed-use rooms.

A Focal Point for Public Spaces

The first and second floors of Inspire on 22nd are connected by a sculptural, wood-clad stair that serves as a focal point for public spaces. These spaces are designed to allow students to study, host game-watching parties, and relax. The mixed-use rooms can also be used to host large-scale and private worship services.

A Substantial Street Presence

One of the design goals for Inspire on 22nd was to create a substantial street presence for both the campus ministry group and the developer of nationwide student living. The building's plinth design achieves this by using a ground floor, two-story curtain wall that is partially shrouded by a perforated metal panel system. The framed openings within the system provide strategic glimpses into the religious meeting spaces and leasing lobby while maintaining privacy where needed.

A Cohesive Look

In addition to creating a substantial street presence, the design of Inspire on 22nd aimed to create a cohesive look for the tower's exterior palette. This was accomplished by using a perforated metal panel system that partially shrouds the two-story curtain wall on the ground floor. The exterior palette allows the tower to have a cohesive look while also providing privacy and glimpses into the religious meeting spaces and leasing lobby.

Overall, Inspire on 22nd is a contemporary housing option in the West Campus neighborhood of Austin, TX that provides students with a variety of amenities. The partnership between the campus ministry group and the prominent developer of nationwide student living has resulted in a tower that has a substantial street presence while also maintaining privacy where needed. The design of the tower's exterior palette allows for a cohesive look while also providing glimpses into the religious meeting spaces and leasing lobby.
