Project's Summary

The Garden on the Rock Hotel project, created by the esteemed WVA architects architectural studio, is nestled in the picturesque Wuling mountainous area of Fuling district, Chongqing, China. Located approximately 130 km away from downtown Chongqing, this exquisite hotel is situated at Yanshang garden, also known as the "Garden on the rock," which is one of the scenic areas of the mesmerizing Damu Flower Valley.

The site itself spans an impressive length of 120m and a width of 80m. Perched atop a hill that gently rises above the valley, the hotel boasts an impressive altitude of 1800m. Surrounded by majestic mountains and a vibrant sea of flowers, the location truly immerses guests in a serene and tranquil natural environment. The harmonious presence of mountains, forests, flowers, and birds creates an ambiance that soothes the soul and captivates the senses.

To access the hotel, guests embark on a delightful journey through the flower valley, commencing from the south entrance. Following a winding mountain road, visitors eventually find themselves at the reception area, thoughtfully situated on the ground floor for convenience. The hotel's massing is meticulously designed to mimic the shape of the surrounding mountains, ascending in a spiral formation. Moreover, the inclusion of an exterior terrace allows guests to relish in the pleasure of dining amidst the enchanting beauty of nature.

One of the most remarkable features of the Garden on the Rock Hotel is its meditation area, ingeniously located beneath the middle scuttle of the hotel. This secluded space provides guests with an opportunity to retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, allowing them to find solace and inner peace. A beam of sunlight, gracefully emanating from the edge of the circular scuttle, serves as a temporal marker, beautifully capturing the passage of time.

The architects behind this extraordinary project sought to seamlessly blend the building with its natural surroundings. To achieve this, they opted for a rough texture that harmoniously integrates with the environment. Local rock was chosen as the primary material for the façade, effectively blurring the boundaries between the hotel and its stunning backdrop. Despite its concrete structure, this architectural approach significantly mitigates the impact the hotel has on its immediate context, ensuring a harmonious coexistence.

In addition, the guest rooms feature a special-designed spiral plan, offering each visitor a unique perspective of the awe-inspiring landscape. Each room boasts its own private courtyard and sightseeing terrace, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the natural beauty that surrounds them. The Garden on the Rock Hotel is truly a haven where guests can escape the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary, forging unforgettable memories amidst nature's splendid embrace.
