DublDom-Kandalaksha
Project's Summary
DublDom-Kandalaksha stands as a testament to innovative architecture and sustainable construction, nestled on the scenic Volosyanaya hillock in Kandalaksha, Russia. This unique project, conceived by BIO-architects, emerged as a generous gift for the town and its residents, particularly for Alexander Trunkovkiy, who won the 'Find your place 2016' competition. The design emphasizes the integration of modern building techniques with the natural landscape, ensuring minimal environmental impact and maximum aesthetic appeal.
The architectural brilliance of DublDom lies in its modular construction, which combines high-tech materials to achieve remarkable energy efficiency while reducing weight. This lightweight design was crucial, as the entire structure had to be airlifted by helicopter to its remote location. The use of durable materials is specifically tailored to withstand the region's extreme weather conditions, including low temperatures and high wind loads, making DublDom a robust and reliable shelter for outdoor enthusiasts.
Inside, DublDom is ingeniously designed to accommodate up to eight guests, featuring modular rack-beds arranged around a central gathering area. This clever layout fosters a sense of community, allowing guests to share experiences while enjoying breathtaking views through the expansive panoramic windows. The minimalist color scheme enhances the serene atmosphere, drawing attention to the stunning vistas of the Kandalaksha gulf, while the thoughtful design incorporates ample storage solutions for outdoor gear and personal belongings.
The strategic orientation of the house maximizes sunlight exposure, providing natural warmth and light throughout the day. As a shelter for tourists, DublDom serves as the perfect base for exploring Kandalaksha's rich array of outdoor activities, including cycling, hiking, and yachting in the summer months. In winter, the surrounding terrain transforms into a playground for ski tours and snowmobiling, attracting adventure seekers from near and far.
Accessibility to DublDom is part of its charm; the journey to this architectural gem requires a 30-40 minute hike through the picturesque landscape. This intentional design choice encourages visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature, making the arrival at DublDom all the more rewarding. With its commitment to sustainability, innovative design, and a prime location for outdoor activities, DublDom-Kandalaksha is not just a shelter; it's an unforgettable experience for all who visit.
