Project's Summary

DD16 represents a groundbreaking advancement in modular architecture, created by the innovative team at BIO-architects. This compact house prototype is specifically designed for installation in remote and extreme conditions, offering a unique solution for those seeking comfort in challenging environments. The structure consists of two factory-made modules, meticulously engineered to maximize efficiency and minimize weight, making it an ideal choice for adventurous living.

The design philosophy behind DD16 emphasizes adaptability and functionality. Each element of the house has been tailored to withstand harsh conditions while ensuring that occupants enjoy a high level of comfort. The frame is constructed from laminated wood, featuring milled ports that significantly reduce weight and eliminate cold bridges and gaps. Insulation is achieved using high-performance polyurethane foam, which not only enhances thermal efficiency but also contributes to the overall lightweight nature of the interior finishing materials.

The exterior of DD16 is adorned with composite aluminum sheets, which create a seamless surface and provide excellent resistance to environmental factors. This lightweight material is also utilized for the kitchen facade, ensuring durability without compromising on aesthetics. Inside, the layout showcases the potential of compact living, featuring a bathroom with a shower, a cozy double bed, a dining area, and designated spaces for a wood stove. The extensive glazing allows natural light to flood the interior, making it feel spacious and inviting.

Testing of the DD16 house has been conducted in various conditions since its installation in November 2016. The house is mounted on modular pontoons, which can be easily assembled and disassembled for transport. This innovative design includes beam releases for quick attachment to cranes or helicopters, allowing for effortless rigging by a single individual, regardless of weather conditions. The autonomous systems integrated into the house, such as solar power for electricity, lake water for consumption, and a bio toilet, further enhance its suitability for remote locations.

Currently, DD16 is available for rental under the DublDomClub aegis, providing an exceptional experience for visitors. Guests can enjoy a day in a compact floating house, surrounded by nature, while providing valuable feedback for further development. Located near Moscow, the house's glazed facade offers picturesque views of the surrounding forest, creating an illusion of being on a wild river. The dynamic movement of the house, influenced by the wind, ensures that the scenery outside is ever-changing, making each visit a unique adventure.
