Campustower HafenCity: Innovative Architecture Design
Project's Summary
Campustower HafenCity: A Beacon of Urbanistic Identity
The Delugan Meissl Associated Architects architectural studio has crafted a stunning office building that serves as a prelude to the development of the Baakerhafen. The Campustower HafenCity is divided into three parts - an architrave block, a waler, and a head - that create a strong urban identity for the ensemble while generating unique qualities within the building.
A Unique Structure with Diverse Functions
The building features special functions such as Start Up and HCU offices on the first floor, access to a roof terrace with an attached office and meeting area on the seventh floor, and a bar with a 360° view between the head of the building and the shed roof. These functions are located within the breaks subdividing the building, creating a beacon effect that radiates far beyond the borders of the property, guaranteeing a landmark effect from afar.
A Dazzling Façade with Two Materials
The outer appearance of the Campustower HafenCity is shaped by two materials - dark concrete slabs for opaque areas and deflector panes for translucent zones. This design accommodates the requirements of noise protection while allowing for a sense of openness thanks to the windows. The external sunscreen is positioned between the deflector panes and the thermic shell, protecting it from wind and weather influences. The pattern dividing the façade follows the inner structure of the building, creating a self-contained elegance while offering a cost-effective solution and an energetically reasonable proportion between the transparent and the opaque materials.
A Filigree Elevation with Dazzling Visual Relations
The structure of the façade continues at the ground floor with large scale windows connected to the opaque front. The 360° bar located on the rooftop enables diversified visual relations to the Hafencity, the Baakenhafen, as well as Hamburg's city center. A filigree elevation is created thanks to the shed roof reduced towards the exterior as well as its mirrored soffit. The activities within the building are visible from the street in the evenings, adding to the unique ambiance of this iconic structure.
The Campustower HafenCity is a testament to the innovative and creative spirit of Delugan Meissl Associated Architects. With its unique structure, diverse functions, and dazzling façade, it stands as a beacon of urbanistic identity in the heart of Hamburg.
