Discover the Architectural Process with Brooklyn in Process Exhibition and Citizen Designer Program by Marvel Architects
Project's Summary
Marvel Architects, a New York-based architectural practice, has recently opened an exhibition called 'Brooklyn in Process' at Usagi NY, a cultural hub located in DUMBO, Brooklyn, NY. The exhibition aims to present the field of architectural process, which is usually hidden from public view, and spans the conception, design, construction and active life of buildings. The exhibition features aerial views of buildings alive in the urban fabric, juxtaposed with intimate sketches suggesting design schemes that never came to pass. In addition, the exhibition also displays a heterogeneous collection of artifacts, maintaining a frenetic and diffuse quality consistent with a borough undergoing increasingly rapid development and change.
Furthermore, Marvel Architects is also organising a free program called 'Citizen/ Designer: Everyday People Making the City', a series of open conversations exploring both the possibilities and limitations faced by individuals who wish to contribute to the design of their cities. The program will bring together practitioners, policy makers, community leaders and activists across the fields of planning, real estate, art and design. The third and final event in the series, called 'Citizen/ Designer: Conversation 3', will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2016, and will be led by individuals who have taken an active role in the design of the urban environment.
The 'Brooklyn in Process' exhibition and the 'Citizen/ Designer: Everyday People Making the City' program have been organised by Marvel Architects and supported by the Center for Architecture (AIANY). The exhibition is on view until March 12, 2016, and the program is open to the public.
In conclusion, the 'Brooklyn in Process' exhibition and the 'Citizen/ Designer: Everyday People Making the City' program are both initiatives by Marvel Architects to present the field of architectural process and to explore the possibilities and limitations faced by individuals who wish to contribute to the design of their cities. The exhibition and the program aim to bring together practitioners, policy makers, community leaders and activists across the fields of planning, real estate, art and design to inspire brainstorming of new ideas and process models that enable the citizen to become a critical player in contemporary urban planning and design.
