Revitalizing BCVs: A Creative Project by VOLTOLINI Architectural Studio
The integration of any project into its surroundings is crucial for its success. This was the primary consideration for the VOLTOLINI Architectural Studio in their recent project for BCVs - Banque Cantonale Vaudoise. The project evolved with a focus on communal rules, the location, and contextual relationship, leading to four fundamental characteristics: the materiality of concrete, a dialogue between local stone and concrete, a wooden finishing, and a wooden beam cover.
Reinterpreting local materials was an essential aspect of the project. Through discussions with the local council, the use of walls of local stone as structural elements of the space and the reinterpretation of old traditional wood constructions were incorporated. The construction of the cover was achieved through a wood assembly of beams, creating a unique identity for the renovated building.
The conceptual approach to the project was informed by the building's location at the intersection of the Central Square and the Street of Creux. The façade was articulated in response to this, creating a distinct identity for the building as an institutional Cantonal bank. This distinction from the surrounding buildings was necessary to reflect the building's function.
The VOLTOLINI Architectural Studio's project for BCVs is a testament to their creative vision and attention to detail. The integration of the project into its surroundings, the reinterpretation of local materials, and the conceptual approach to the building's function have resulted in a unique and captivating design. The project breathes new life into the building, revitalizing it and creating a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
