Preserving History with Modern Design: Akademia Park Officium

The Akademia Park Officium project, a magnificent building that once served as a military school, holds a rich history dating back to its construction in 1897. Over the years, several additions were made to the original structure, including a sport and event hall in 1926, and a new wing for kitchen, restaurant, and other functions in 1941. However, our vision was to reimagine the building while preserving its original charm. With this in mind, we decided to demolish the attached parts and give the structure a fresh perspective.

To bring our plans to life, we introduced a stunning glass facade that ran parallel to the length of the old building. This addition not only met the requirements of modern times but also clearly distinguished the old and new sections of the structure. By integrating the building's original form with contemporary elements, we were able to achieve a harmonious blend of old-world charm and modern design.

The roof level underwent a complete transformation, with the roof structure and covering being entirely rebuilt. While the park side retained the old design, we created a magnificent roof terrace/patio by opening up the glass facade facing Riadó street. This addition not only enhanced the building's aesthetic appeal but also provided a delightful outdoor space for its occupants to enjoy.

The brick and stone facade of the original building underwent a thorough renewal, restoring its grandeur. The reformed main entrance and hall retained their functions, while a new entrance was introduced on Riadó street. Both the architectural and engineering solutions employed in this project were of the highest quality, meeting the most stringent standards. As a testament to our efforts, the plans were recognized with a BREEAM EXCELLENT qualification, and the building itself received three prizes at the INTERNATIONAL PROPERTY AWARD 2011.

The Akademia Park Officium project, brought to life by the talented Vikar and Lukacs Architects Studio, showcases the successful merger of historical preservation and contemporary design. This exceptional building stands as a testament to the studio's dedication to creating spaces that captivate and inspire.
