Project's Summary

HIGHBURY CORNER, HIGHBURY

Nearby post-war structures blend with Georgian and Victorian streetscapes to form a significant node in Islington's local urban fabric.

Proportion and ratios in the historic setting were examined while emphasising on the texture, tone, and quality of natural handcrafted materials. Considered attention is paid to all aspects of the design, including materials, proportions, and shape. The site's Georgian and Victorian surroundings inspired the use of modular proportions and ratios to create a well-balanced design with evident hierarchy.

By establishing datum levels in the surrounding setting and responding to the internal scheme, the façade is articulated. It becomes lighter and more beautiful as the building's purposes move from public to private, rising above the harsh urban surroundings below.
