Partnership Center: Innovative Architecture for Higher Education
Project's Summary
The Partnership Center, a captivating classroom and departmental building, has been strategically designed to stand out from the rest of the campus while also serving as a new entry point. This architectural gem comprises three main elements that seamlessly come together to create a harmonious structure. The first element is a three-story black brick box housing various classrooms. Attached to this box are collegial spaces made of glass and aluminum, providing a modern touch. Lastly, an open and welcoming public entry area connects two buildings, creating a sense of unity.
Within the Partnership Center, students can find a total of 27 classrooms, each catering to different learning needs. Ranging from intimate discussion areas accommodating 20 individuals to a divisible lecture hall capable of hosting up to 100 people, these classrooms offer versatility and adaptability. Moreover, the building incorporates collegial student spaces that are strategically placed throughout, encouraging casual group interactions and fostering a sense of community.
Minnesota State University's upper division courses are also housed within the Partnership Center, further highlighting its significance on this metropolitan campus. This facility serves as a hub for advanced education, providing students with a conducive learning environment that supports their academic growth.
In line with the college's sustainability goals, the Partnership Center features native plant materials in its surroundings. This commitment to preserving the environment extends to the respectful preservation of the expansive wetlands located north of the campus. By incorporating native plants and prioritizing sustainability, the building not only enhances the campus aesthetic but also contributes to the well-being of the surrounding ecosystem.
The Partnership Center at Normandale Community College is a testament to the innovative design and thoughtful planning brought forth by the Architecture Advantage, LLC architectural studio. With its striking appearance, functional spaces, and commitment to sustainability, this building not only serves as a gateway to the campus but also as a symbol of growth and progress in higher education.
