Project's Summary

The city of Saint-Priest faced a challenge when it had to relocate petanque fields and a building during the development of the Berliet urban zone. However, an agreement was reached between the city and the association responsible for managing the petanque facilities. In return for their displacement, the association received a brand new clubhouse and four play areas. This exciting development allowed athletes and enthusiasts to once again showcase their skills starting from April 2012.

The new club house, spanning an impressive 125 square meters, was designed to complement the adjacent construction. It cleverly incorporated triangular shapes, inspired by the unique morphology of the surrounding land. Only occupying a third of the total area, the remaining space was thoughtfully transformed into a green oasis filled with local grass species that require minimal maintenance. The building itself comprises two parallel strips, slightly offset from each other. One side accommodates a cozy living room and an office, while the other houses a technical area complete with a kitchen and bathroom. This architectural arrangement creates a sheltered terrace in the northeast corner and a welcoming canopy entrance in the southwest.

To further enhance its visual appeal, the entire building is adorned with a striking metal skin. From galvanized steel siding to steel doors, curtains, and even perforated steel panels embellishing the windows and canopies, this architectural masterpiece exudes a sculptural allure. The Mirror Ball project, brought to life by the Y. Architectes architectural studio, showcases their innovative design approach and attention to detail.

The successful completion of the Mirror Ball project not only resolved the relocation challenge faced by the city of Saint-Priest but also provided the petanque association with state-of-the-art facilities. Athletes and enthusiasts can now enjoy their favorite pastime in a modern and aesthetically pleasing environment. The new clubhouse's unique design, incorporating triangular elements and a mesmerizing metal exterior, truly sets it apart as a remarkable architectural object. Its seamless integration with the surrounding landscape and the thoughtful use of green spaces further contribute to its overall appeal. The Mirror Ball project stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and innovative design in enhancing community spaces.
