METRO STATION "PROSPEKT MARSHALA ZHUKOVA" (COMPETITION CONCEPT)
Project's Summary
The METRO STATION 'PROSPEKT MARSHALA ZHUKOVA' stands as a profound architectural statement, seamlessly blending history with modern design. This competition concept by Studio-TA presents a ground pavilion that evokes the grandeur of a museum or memorial. Crafted from architectural concrete, the pavilion's military-inspired color palette pays homage to the resilience and spirit of those who fought during the Great Patriotic War.
One striking feature of the pavilion is its diagonal copper terracotta triangle, reminiscent of the burned landscapes of war. This element not only serves an aesthetic purpose but also symbolizes the sacrifices made during conflict. The flooring, adorned with dark gray tiles, mirrors the iconic paving stones of Moscow's Red Square, the very site of the Victory Parade, creating an immersive experience that connects the present with the past.
As passengers enter the station platform, they are greeted by a design that captures the essence of wartime bravery. The central columns of the gallery showcase a dynamic display of war newsreel footage, led by the legendary figure of Georgiy Zhukov. This innovative approach allows passengers to feel as if they are stepping into a black-and-white film, only to be transported back to the vibrant present, illustrating the allegorical relationship between history and contemporary life.
The walls along the platform serve as a canvas of remembrance, adorned with words that embody the spirit of courage and honor. Passengers are invited to reflect on the qualities that define Marshal Zhukov and the countless soldiers who defended their homeland. Words such as 'bravery', 'valor', and 'peace' resonate deeply, evoking feelings of pride and respect for the sacrifices made in the name of freedom.
Above the driveways, the ceiling features a stunning copper terracotta design interspersed with black slats, symbolizing the St. George ribbon. This design element transcends time, reaching toward infinity, much like the enduring legacy of those who serve. The METRO STATION 'PROSPEKT MARSHALA ZHUKOVA' encapsulates a modern interpretation of wartime atmosphere, creating a space that honors the past while looking forward to the future.
