MEGREGIONSTROY - Urban Design in Vereya, Moscow Region
About the company
MEGREGIONSTROY stands as a beacon of architectural innovation in the quaint town of Vereya, one of the oldest settlements in the Moscow region. Our mission transcends mere construction; it embodies a vision to weave the fabric of history with modern usability, creating spaces that resonate with both the past and the present. The recent project undertaken in the heart of Vereya exemplifies this commitment, transforming a historic town square into a vibrant public space that honors its rich heritage while meeting contemporary needs.
The centerpiece of our endeavor was the meticulous renovation of ancient pavements and the thoughtful expansion of greenspaces. The restoration process involved the careful removal of a three-foot layer of asphalt to unveil the original quarry stone paving, reminiscent of centuries gone by. This painstaking effort has revitalized the central square, restoring its character and charm. The square now serves as a unifying hub for the town's key landmarks, including the historic museum and the bustling bazaar, which are all integral to Vereya's cultural identity.
In our design, we maintain a delicate balance between historical integrity and modern functionality. We recognized the importance of accessibility in public spaces; hence, we incorporated contemporary paving stones to create smooth walkways that are level with the historic quarrystone. This thoughtful integration ensures that the square is welcoming to everyone, including those with mobility challenges and families with young children. The result is a harmonious blend of old and new, making the square a model for future urban design projects.
Beyond the square, our work extended to revitalizing the century-old public garden that complements the area. The playground has been expanded and reimagined with natural materials like wood and sand, ensuring it harmonizes with the historic surroundings. An open-air stage was added, designed to facilitate community events such as festivals and concerts, thus enriching the cultural tapestry of Vereya. Eco-friendly initiatives, including an eco-parking area and a dedicated bike lane, further enhance the functionality of the space, promoting sustainable transportation and community engagement. The unique benches, crafted in the shape of historic tethering posts, serve as a nod to the town's past while providing modern comforts.
Commissioned by The Ministry of Landscape and Public Space Development of Moscow Region, MEGREGIONSTROY's project in Vereya is a testament to our dedication to excellence in urban design. We believe that architecture is not just about buildings; it’s about creating environments that foster community, celebrate history, and inspire future generations. Through innovative design and a deep respect for the cultural heritage of the places we work in, we aim to transform public spaces into vibrant centers of life and activity.
