New Metro Stations Opened in 2024 in Moscow Russia
Moscow’s metro network saw significant expansion in 2024 with the opening of several new stations. On December 28, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin inaugurated three new stations on the Troitskaya Line: Kornilovskaya, Kommunarka, and Novomoskovskaya. Earlier in September, additional stations were opened, including Novatorskaya, Universitet Druzhby Narodov, Generala Tyuleneva, Tyutchevskaya on the Troitskaya Line, and Potapovo on the Sokolnicheskaya Line. Here’s a closer look at each new station.
Kornilovskaya: Autumn-Themed Aesthetics
Located along Kaluzhskoye Highway at the intersection with General Kornilov Street, Kornilovskaya station features an autumn-inspired design. The station walls are adorned with aluminum and stone compositions in shades of yellow and red, while the ceiling has smooth wooden slats with recessed lighting fixtures.
Kommunarka: A Suprematist Design
Situated in the Novomoskovsky district near Stolbovo village, Kommunarka station connects with the existing Sokolnicheskaya Line’s station of the same name. Inspired by suprematism, its design features asymmetrical yet balanced geometric compositions. A standout feature is a turbine-shaped light fixture that enhances the station’s modern aesthetic.
Novomoskovskaya: A Tribute to New Moscow’s Green Spaces
Positioned outside the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) near Stolbovo village, Novomoskovskaya station has a single entrance hall leading to residential areas and public transport stops. The interior design incorporates green shades reminiscent of New Moscow’s parks, while the ceiling features a birch-bark-like pattern with recessed lighting.
Novatorskaya: A Bright and Modern Hub
Opened in September near Leninsky Prospekt at the intersection of Udaltzova and Novatorov streets, Novatorskaya station provides a transfer to the Big Circle Line (BKL). The station is adorned with orange aluminum honeycomb panels, while its floor and dual-column rows are clad in light-gray granite. The entrance pavilions are constructed from glass and metal, creating a lightweight, modern look.
Universitet Druzhby Narodov: A Celebration of Unity
Located along Akademika Oparina Street at its intersection with Miklukho-Maklaya Street, this station opened on September 7, 2024. Its ceiling is decorated with green and blue coffers, mirroring similar designs on the walls and ticket hall. Mosaic artworks inside the station depict students and a symbolic representation of international friendship.
Generala Tyuleneva: A Tribute to a Military Hero
Situated at the intersection of Teply Stan and General Tyulenev streets, this station features black stone columns and a floor made of gray granite. The walls of the ticket hall are clad in gray marble and orange artificial stone, with one glass wall displaying a portrait of General Ivan Tyulenev.
Tyutchevskaya: Inspired by Slavic Folklore
Located at the outer section of the 41st km of the MKAD and the projected passage No. 976 in Mosrentgen, New Moscow, Tyutchevskaya station is named after Russian poet and diplomat Fyodor Tyutchev. The station’s design blends orange and gray tones, with platform walls decorated with images of mythical Slavic creatures and ceiling beams featuring decorative lighting.
Potapovo: Moscow’s First Heated Surface Station
Positioned along the Solntsevo–Butovo–Varshavskoye Highway near Alexandra Monakhova Street, Potapovo station is Moscow’s first above-ground metro station with integrated heating systems. Its exterior is composed of perforated metal sheets with extensive glazing. The station is adorned with a sculpture by renowned artist Dashi Namdakov, symbolizing movement and Moscow’s dynamic growth.
